Los Angeles, CA. – On Thursday August 22 and Saturday August 24, BeautyCon landed in LA and spread throughout the beauty and social media consciousness. On Thursday YouTube’s flagship space located in Los Angeles, CA. “YouTube Space LA” was host to over 200 vloggers for BeautyCon’s 3rd annual kick-off event sponsored by Joico. On Saturday the main beauty convention was held at Siren Studios in the heart of Hollywood, where Joico’s celebrity colorist George Papanikolas spoke on a panel and talked “hot trends.”
From tips, how-tos, tutorials and reviews, bloggers and vloggers have made their mark on the beauty industry, and one that has become a force to be reckoned with. The beauty industry’s top video-media mavens were present on Thursday’s YouTube event to speak on a panel about the burgeoning online industry. They addressed hundreds of their counterparts who are either just starting out or trying to become as successful as they have been. The attendees were in good company with the cream of the crop having millions of YouTube subscribers. Beauty vloggers like Kandee Johnson (1.6+ million You Tube subscribers) and sisters Elle and Blair Fowler (1.1+ million and 1.49+ million respectively) were there to share their success stories and advice.
Joico sponsored the event and was on hand with Joico stylists Emma Sheahan, Meryl Velbeck and Alena Herwehe to provide braids and hairstyling to all the vloggers present. Each guest also received a travel-size Joico Power Spray to take home, which has been the hottest hair spray to hit shelves winning SELF magazine’s Beauty Award for Best Hairspray, and chosen Editor’s “Rising Star” Pick on DailyMakover.com. Alongside these famous new-media gurus were actresses Sophia Bush and Christina Milian. Milian who serves as the social media correspondent for NBC’s “The Voice,” also spoke on the panel and gave her insight on reaching out to and engaging millions over digital and social media.
Saturday’s main event (the 2nd Annual BeautyCon) was open to the public as well as industry insiders and had a line wrapped around the block with over 1,500 RSVPs. Beauty stations were offering manicures and makeup and plenty of gift bags to go around, but vloggers pros and beauty lovers alike were there to attend the many panel sessions offered throughout the day, including “Bur It Or Buy It – The best and worst trends of the year” on the main BeautyCon Stage, where Joico celebrity colorist George Papanikolas along with beauty bloggers and vloggers talked about the trends they absolutely loved and those they didn’t. Kelly Osbourne of E!’s Fashion Police was also on the main stage for a Q&A where she answered live Twitter questions.
The day was filled with the sounds of DJ Josh Beech accompanied by Shenae Grimes who debuted her DJ skills. With a crowd around the block for most of the day, BeautyCon 2013 was a sure-fire success.
