Hair cocktailing 101: What is it, how do we do it?

Cocktailing 101: What’s On The Menu…

Martini: dry, wet, shaken, or stirred: Much the same way a drink is prepared to suit a client’s individual taste, hair cocktailing is tailored to the particular needs and condition of your ‘do. A jigger of this, a splash of that – before you know it, you’ve got a formula for intoxicatingly beautiful hair.

Words of Wisdom: “Make sure, when you’re using product, that you are not pumping so much that it makes the hair heavy. That’s why I only do about 1 – 3 pumps (of any hair product); it all depends on hair type. Does it need more moisture or does it need repair or does it want to be left alone with some Joico Beach Shake Texturizing Finisher? The hair will always tell me the story.”

“The Blowout: Served Neat”

Recipe: My EPIC blowouts for thin-to-thick hair start with Defy Damage Protective Shield. I generally apply 2 pumps for thin hair and 4 pumps for thick; then I add 1 pump of Blonde life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil! (Yes, it’s great for blondes, but it adds just the right amount of shine without weighing the hair down.) Oooh…and a little JoiWhip Design Foam for the root area if you want volume!

“Slow Frizz “

Recipe: I spray K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock Multi-Perfector Spray before I blow-dry and curl the hair. After I’m done styling, I’ll apply 2 pumps of the K-PAK Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil. (It smells amazing!)

Pro tip: Use this before you take photos. I always do — and especially before photo shoots.
