The Jill and Jewel story…
“I’ve been doing Jewel’s hair for about 4 years now; I first met her through Nikki Lee, one of the owners of Nine Zero One Salon. Jewel likes to put the control in my hands…she fully trusts me to bring my Beauty Coach knowledge to the table and give her the best look for her.”

Her name may be Jewel, but she doesn’t go for sparkle…
“Jewel is not into all the glitz and glam. She is low-maintenance and a natural beauty. As her stylist, it’s important that I encourage her to seek change now and again. We have had her hair long for years, so I figured she should go for something new… something modern! She trusted me, and we agreed on a length for the first round that didn’t shock her. Don’t be surprised if she ends up shorter next time!”

Time for a change…
“I decided we should switch it up and give her long, blonde locks a break from being tossed around on stage. We went with a modern “lob” length and a deeper root color, to help give her more dimension without taking her blonder.”

The thinking behind that darker blonde…
“Jewel lives in a cold climate, so she will not see the sun for months…unlike our Southern California spring seasons. I wanted to add a richness to her blonde and more depth at her root.”

Her fave pro tip…
“Adding depth next to blonde allows it to appear blonder – which saves time and damage. I was able to achieve this look for Jewel in 90 minutes. Quick and easy!”

Jill’s Defy Damage wisdom…
“Ever since the launch of Defy Damage, I have been using this on all my color preps! I’ve been amazed with it so far. I’ve also asked my clients to only use professional shampoo, like the Defy Damage collection, and have them on a routine of washing their hair every third day.”

Another way Jill keeps hair healthy…
“My first advice is to only do one method of heat styling. If you air dry first, then you can curl…or vice versa; if you blow-dry hair straight, don’t add curl. Just try to avoid doing both.”

The good news about bold color…
“I think that fashion hair color is going to continue to be big throughout 2019. The look is more accepted in work places and sophisticated fashion now.”

Go with the flow…
“When clients want change, don’t hesitate to give it to them! Have fun with it and give them what they need. If they have fine hair, add that row of extensions; if they have thick hair, give them a treatment before you style. Always go the extra mile.”
