Romantic Holiday Buns (Sweeet!)?

NICE BUNS!

With Joico Global Artistic Director, Richard Mannah

Flip that holiday hair script by trading a night of traditional curls for an easy updo (or two!). These romantic buns from Joico Global Artistic Director, Richard Mannah, are sweet and sexy all at the same time. Best of all…they’re eaaaasy!

A bun doesn’t have to be locked into the stereotype of “messy” or “neat.” The pair he created for Holiday 2021 fall somewhere in the middle. “These are sophisticated, yet casual and easy to create,” he explains. “The shape and texture at the back is what makes each look different; one has many loops, and the other has a “cone” shape…it’s all about visual balance.” Better yet, Richard claims it’s easy to switch things up with placement: Try a side bun one day; a low bun another; or even a sky-high bun at the top of the crown the next.

Bun #1: The Loop-De-Loop
A series of artfully tucked-together loops form the base of this beautiful bun.
Step 1. Gather and brush hair into a ponytail. Secure with an elastic.

Step 2. Arrange crown hair into gentle swoops – hold in place with metal clips while working on the bun.

Step 3. Apply Weekend Hair Dry Shampoo into the ponytail for grip, shine, and texture.

Step 4. Brush through and apply Body Shake for additional volume and hold.

Step 5. Begin winding small sections of the pony into mini loops, and bobby-pin into place around the elastic base.

Step 6. Pull out small strands/ends of hair to relax the look.

Step 7. Add a flower barrette to one side for flourish.

Step 8. Remove clips at the crown and spray hair with Body Shake for additional hold. Pull out small tendrils of hair at sideburns and add curls if desired.

Bun #2: The Cool Cone
With a strategic twist, your ponytail becomes a brilliant bun.

Step 5. Remove clips at the crown and spray hair with Body Shake for additional hold. Pull out small tendrils of hair at sideburns and add curls if desired.

Step 6. Take the ponytail and split it into two halves, crossing sections over each other, winding back upwards, crossing again, and bringing back down underneath the elastic. The move should naturally form a cone shape.

Step 7. Secure with bobby pins and add an elegant clip at one side for flourish.
