One Cool Cat: Doja Cat’s Grammy Hair How-To’s

DOJA CAT’S GRAMMY HAIR

FEATURING CELEBRITY STYLIST, JARED HENDERSON

Rapper Doja Cat rocked this year’s Grammy Awards – not just for her electrifying performance of Say So; but also for showcasing two edgy hair looks that shook up the glam night. With the help of her celebrity hairstylist, Jay Henderson (@jstayready_), fans were treated to a cool mullet on the carpet, and bold burgundy extensions on stage.

THE ‘EVENT’ LOOK
Known for keeping audiences guessing, Allure Magazine calls Doja Cat a “beauty chameleon” and an “ever-changing beauty shape-shifter.” And the first hair look she unveiled for the evening – with Joico stylers at the helm– was as surprising as always: a deep cocoa-brown, shag-style mullet with delicate baby bangs.

THE PERFORMANCE LOOK
When it came time to take the stage, Henderson went to great lengths to make sure Doja Cat knocked it out of the hair park. Her performance ‘do – a complete transformation from the short shag – included an extension-enhanced ponytail shimmering with Joico’s Color Intensity Ruby Red. Here’s how to “copy-cat” the look:

THE RECIPES
Prep Treatment: Defy Damage ProSeries 1: Bond-Protecting Color Optimizer
Formula 1: Blonde Life Powder Lightener with 20 Volume LumiShine Developer
Formula 2: Color Intensity Red + Ruby Red equal parts
Post Treatment: Defy Damage ProSeries 2: Bond-Strengthening Color Treatment

COLOR STEP-BY-STEP
Step 1: Pre-lighten extensions with Formula 1 to a level 4 brunette; then rinse and shampoo with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo under cool water. Towel-dry hair.
Step 2: Add Formula 2 to a sink filled with hot water and stir until the water is red.
Step 3: Dip the extensions in the water color, and let process for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Treat the extensions with Defy Damage ProSeries 2 for 5 minutes. Rinse and allow to air-dry.

Step 1: Spray hair with Joico JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray, and brush into a ponytail – Jared Henderson uses the Dyson Supersonic with styling Concentrator attachment on a low-heat setting.

Step 2: Once extensions are added to the pony for volume and length, apply a dime-size amount of Joico Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil in palms of hands, and run through the hair to add a little shine and moisture.

Step 3: Tie small elastics 3 inches apart, going down the ponytail; gently pull on hair between the elastics to create “bubbles.”

Step 4: Once all of the hair bubbles are formed, finish off the look with Joico Power Spray – this seals the style and makes sure Doja’s ‘do holds up throughout all the hair whips in the performance!
