Style Talk From Joico International Artistic Director, Richard Mannah

“I find editorial inspiration everywhere – in architecture, nature, people, sea life, social media, and, of course, fashion,” explains Richard,

His three looks for the Premiere Orlando Beauty Show can be considered wearable art. And don’t let the “fear factor” get to you: This superstar stylist explains that pushing yourself to try new looks and techniques is the key to growing as artist. “By continuing to step out of my comfort zone, I’m learning more and more how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.”

The artist’s notes:

“I worked 6 small braids through the front as a veil. Next, I added metallic elastics and Kela hair jewelry for extra pizazz. Finally, I worked two high ponytails shaped like horns around the back using a metallic elastic.”

LOOK #2: NYC DOWNTOWN GIRLS

The artist’s notes:

“I created 3 braids on either side, 2 braids in the center, and 2 ponytails through the back. Then, I added gorgeous blue/lavender-colored extensions to make the look truly pop. Modern metal bars added interest through the front and back.”

The artist’s notes:

“I worked 2 infinity braids around the top, then gathered the rest of the hair into a high ponytail, and added 30-inch extensions for dramatic effect. The metal bars were placed through the braids for edgy detail.”

(Hot tip: Try to avoid clip-in extensions when fashioning these looks, as the braids need to be clean and flat to the scalp.)
