For Brandon, the lightbulb moment came late one evening, when he was dreaming up new techniques and puzzling over how to customize application to individual clients. “I’m all about tailoring the look to the client in every way possible. And I started thinking about the way we cut hair: We work on curves and fitting the cut to the clients neck, face shape, head shape, facial features, and lifestyle. I took that idea -- of the head being circular -- and came up with my concept from there!”

“I start working with curved subsections off the head to tailor the color right into the head shape.”

Shake things up:

“When you see my technique, you will notice every section is different than the last. This is a way to create seamless blending without trying. All curves are different. Some curves are steep and deep and some are elongated and wide.”

Ease up on teasing:

“The next part of the technique came from thinking about our movements and how we can make them more efficient and fluid. We have a lot of physical work in our job, and rapid wrist movements – like teasing -- can be a strain on the body. (I’m also not a big teaser when I color melt, because I don’t like combing it out afterwards!)”
