Singer Doja Cat – winner of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance — rocked not one, but two spectacular looks at the Grammy’s this year…and Joico Celebrity Hairstylist, Jared “JStayReady” Henderson, was the man who brought those manes to life. We’ve got SCOOP:
LOOK #1: THE CAT’S MEOW ON THE CARPET
Why it wowed: J created a platinum, half-up look that took its inspo from the late 90’s/early 2000’s, with micro bangs, face-framing tendrils, and fun little Bantu knots that added spike and spunk.
How he did it (in J’s words!):
“I prepped Doja’s natural hair by shampooing and conditioning with Joico's Defy Damage collection.
“I then prepped Doja's blonde wig by shampooing and conditioning with Joico's Color Balance Purple to neutralize all the yellow/brassy tones.”
“After applying Doja's wavy blonde wig, I blow-dried it straight with a paddle brush.”
“ I sectioned off the hair front, temple to temple, and used Joico's JoiGel Firm Styling Gel for the twists and Bantu knots at the top of the hair. The rest of the hair was pulled into a half-up ponytail using Joico's JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray.
“I flat-ironed and finished off the look with Joico's Power Spray Fast-dry Finishing Spray for hold -- and to control frizz on the carpet.”
LOOK #2: CAT CALL ON STAGE
Why it wowed: There’s nothing like the contrast between an uber-feminine wisp of a pink dress…paired with the gutsiest hair ever. J’s creation – a tightly pulled-back updo punctuated with spiky strands – gave Doja Cat’s hard/soft look just the right amount of edge.
How he did it (in J’s words!):
“I prepped Doja’s natural hair by shampooing and conditioning with Joico's Defy Damage collection.
“I then flat-ironed the hair straight.”
“Next, I added extensions and used JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray to smooth the hair up into a sleek ponytail.”
“I flat-ironed the ponytail straight and added a dime-sized amount of Joico's Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil for shine. I twisted the hair and wrapped it into a bun with 2 spikes.”
“I finished the look off with my Joico JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray to control frizz and keep everything perfect while she sat for the show.
