The pop-star ponytail is on a high note. Like, a reach-for-the-stars kind of high note – one you can easily hit with these step-by-steps from Joico Global Artistic Director, Richard Mannah.

The inspo: “Inspired by a pop princess, I wanted to work a high pony with a beautiful side parting around the front – it delivers that polished and sleek finish,” explains Richard, who actually worked two ponytails together “to get that snatched effect.”

Let’s get started

THE STEP-BY-STEPS:
Step 1: Clip crown and side hair out of the way by coiling on top of the head and securing temporarily with a clip. (Leave bangs or long layers in the front free, but clip to side.)

Step 2: Brushing back hair up into a high, sleek ponytail, apply Humidity Blocker Finishing Spray to the underside of hair and secure with an elastic. Tame flyaways by spraying Humidity Blocker on a clean toothbrush and stroking onto hair in an upwards direction.

Step 3: Now take bundled crown hair and create another ponytail using the same technique. Combine it with the first pony and secure both with one elastic.

Step 4: Curl the ponytail in sections, letting curls set by clipping them into individual coils until cool. Spray with JoiMist Medium and hit briefly with a blow-dryer for hold.

Step 5: Comb bangs sleekly to one side and tuck behind the ear, spraying with JoiMist Medium to keep them in place.

Step 6: Apply Rise Up Powder Spray into layers of the ponytail to volumize and amplify the look, adding texture and grip.

Step 7: Add a final flourish by placing a shiny, bow-style clip at the base of the pony.
