The much-anticipated film House of Gucci Joico Celebrity Artist Frederic Aspiras knocked his artistry for long-time client, Lady Gaga, out of the park once again. At a very special industry screening presented by Joico, we took a thrilling first look at the film that’s got the world going Gaga…and unveiled an up-close-and-personal convo with the man behind the mane.

Chances are, you’ve read/heard/seen the excited chatter about Gaga’s newest film, House of Gucci. It’s the sweeping, true-story saga of Patrizia Reggiani, an ambitious outsider who marries into the family and begins to unravel their celebrated legacy, spiraling into a tailspin of betrayal, revenge, and eventually, murder. Directed by Ridley Scott, and starring Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jared Leto, and Salma Hayek, the film spans three decades of the family’s designer dynasty, in which the drama unfolds.

FREDDY’S PASSION PROJECT
For our celebrated hair visionary, Frederic Aspiras, designing Gaga’s spot-on looks – taking the character of Patrizia on a multi-decade retrospective, from the 1970s to the 1990s – was a deeply personal creative mission; one we knew the industry would be eager to experience in detail. And so, we invited guests to a special evening at the London West Hollywood in Beverly Hills, where they were treated to a chic welcome reception (complete with red carpet!); a first-look screening of the House of Gucci; and an up-close Q & A with Frederic himself. It was a uniquely thrilling moment for film, for hair, for Hollywood.

Much of the challenge lay in recreating intricate hairstyles from the 1970s using the actual methods of the time to produce not just the look, but the visceral personality of Patrizia’s hair. “I had to be as authentic as possible by using…wet-set rolls, back-combing, French lacing, spiral perms – you name it. It was done exactly to T from that era,” says Freddy, who touchingly revealed that he learned many of these vintage techniques from early days spent watching his hairdresser mother in her salon.

The benefit of reaching to the past meant that Freddy was able to mimic the texture, the vibe, the feel, and even the movement of Patrizia’s historic hair. “I needed to transport you to that time, making sure viewers did not see Lady Gaga, but the character of Patrizia,” he explains. That he was successful was clear by the stunning detail of some 55+ looks that unfold on screen.

Stay tuned for more in the weeks to come. (Spoiler alert: Freddy’s going to detail the hair artistry and techniques you’ll see in the film. Trust us: You don’t want to miss a minute.)
