Featuring Joico Global Brand Storyteller, Olivia Thompson

Think you know everything there is to know about the care and feeding of gray hair? Joico Global Brand Storyteller, Olivia Thompson, puts your knowledge to the test with this tell-it-like-it-is guide that blows open the lid on silver strands.
MYTH #1: If I pull out a gray hair, two will grow back
False! says Olivia…
“When you start micromanaging hair at that level of detail, you begin noticing gray hairs that you didn’t see there before. The fact is, though, gray isn’t contagious; and plucking a single strand shouldn’t affect any hairs nearby. All that said, plucking can damage the follicle preventing new hair from growing back. My best advice is to not touch it. You need that gray to grow length so it sits FLAT on the hair; otherwise, it will always be this short, annoying strand that is useless! Let it be colored properly in the salon and you won’t see it nearly as much when it grows in.”
MYTH #2: Gray hair is stubborn, so it takes hours to cover it
False! says Olivia…
“When my client hasn’t been in the salon in forever and really wants to have her gray touched up, I can get her in and out in a flash,” explains Olivia, who turns to our express-service innovation, Lumi10 Permanent Crème Color. “It delivers 100% gray coverage and up to 2x the shine in just 10 minutes.”

MYTH #3: Gray hair is the same texture as my other hair
False! says Olivia…
“If you have any gray hair and notice that your hair’s become frizzier, drier, and more wiry this season, that’s because it probably has. There’s less pigment (melanin) in gray hair; so as the strand loses its color, it becomes significantly coarser. Believe it or not, hair color, like Lumi10, helps soften wiry hair; as do the YouthLock conditioners, which are enhanced with collagen.” (See below for more deets.)
MYTH #4: Gray is spelled grey.
Yes and no, says Olivia…
“The Merriam-Webster website states, “Gray and grey are both common spellings of the color between black and white. Gray is more frequent in American English, whereas grey is more common in British English.” But it’s not about how you spell it – it’s about how you take care of it! I highly recommend the YouthLock collection for all your gray- covering needs. Enhanced with collagen, each product helps revitalize strands and lock in the look and feel of younger-looking hair.”

With each application of this collagen-infused formula, you’ll kiss the effects of humidity and static goodbye, as hair is strengthened and instantly revitalized with an ageless glow.
* Due to breakage from brushing on damaged hair vs. non-conditioning shampoo ** SLS/SLES sulfates = sodium lauryl sulfate/sodium laureth sulfate
