The 3 Biggest Blonde Problems And How To Fix Them

BLONDE PROB #1

“I can’t deal with the high maintenance”

Model with blonde highlighted hair

To the rescue: Joico Guest Artist, Ricardo Santiago

His strategy:

When my clients want to transition from their high-maintenance blonding, I always suggest a Balayage or free-hand painting techniques with a gradual transition. It looks more natural with each session.

Maintain some of the foil work with the painting for a seamless look.

Add lowlights for dimension – it helps tie in the root color and creates a more natural blend and easier grow out.

Tone it all over to a deeper shade of blonde, which helps with the blend.

Explain to clients that allover toner fades gradually to a lighter shade over the pre-lightened areas. In just a few weeks, they’ll feel like they just got an all-new color!

BLONDE PROB #2

I still want to be blonde – but darker

Model before and after hair color

To the rescue: Joico Global Salon Business Expert, Gina Bianca

Her strategy:

Always start with Defy Damage ProSeries 1: Bond-Protecting Color Optimizer Spray

Pick three shades in the same family: a darker color for the roots, a medium color for the lowlight, and Blonde Life Lightener for lighter Balayage panels.

Start with your desired root color and apply in a tear-drop formation.

Choose LumiShine Permanent Color 7BA and 6BA with 20 Volume LumiShine Developer.

Pick a color to tone and deposit onto the existing blonde. I like LumiShine Permanent Color 9NV and 9N with 10 Volume LumiShine Developer.

Mix your Balayage formulation; Blonde Life Powder Lightener and 20 Volume LumiShine Developer.

Take triangular sections and use your creativity to stack the color in. • Lay colors down gently. • Process for 35 minutes or until desired lift is achieved. Then tone with LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 9NV + 10N with 5 Volume LumiShine Developer.

BLONDE PROB #3

My blonde is too brassy and orange”

Larisa Love coloring clients hair

To the rescue: Joico Brand Ambassador, Larisa Love

Her strategy:

Have your client come to the salon so you can tone the hair and cancel out the warmth.

Use Ash or Violet to neutralize the brassy color. My go to's are the SB (Silver Blue), NA (Natural Ash) and V(Violet) Series in LumiShine Demi Liquids.

Send them home with Blonde Life Violet Shampoo and Conditioner, or Color Balance Purple Shampoo and Conditioner, so they can maintain the coolness and fight brass at home.

Caution your client to avoid too much exposure to sun, and excessive use of thermal tools. Advise daily use of a good heat protectant, like Joico Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Crème
