PRIDE & JOI:
JOICO MASTER ARTIST, KYLE MILLER (HE, HIM)

“Compassion, understanding, and empathy.” Those are words that Joico Master Artist, Kyle Miller (he, him), holds near and dear – not just during Pride month, but all year long. Here, his kind-and-gentle thoughts on the importance of helping others….
Meet Kyle…
Joico Master Artist, Kyle Miller, looks at hair as an extension of fine art, a passion he has pursued and studied throughout his life; so it’s not surprising that he approaches hairstyling as a medium in which to create a masterpiece. As an educator, he’s acutely in tune with the connection between his artistry and science, having developed a keen sense of how hair products, ingredients, and chemicals interplay in the foundation of a beautiful cut and vibrant color. As a hairdresser, a member of the LGTBQ+ community, and an 11-year volunteer for local hospice groups, he brings a loving heart to those around him.
We sat down for a chat with him today…
Joico:
Does being LGBTQ+ change who you are as a hair artist?
Kyle:
“Honestly, I'm just like most other stylists; I like to work and make people look and feel beautiful.”
Joico:
Has being a member of the LGBTQ+ community shaped your career?
Kyle:
“I feel that being a part of the LGBTQ+ community has made me a more compassionate, understanding, and empathetic individual – and [given me the ability] to help any one person feel amazing, both on the inside and out.”
Joico:
What kinds of changes have you seen in the industry in terms of acceptance or activism?
Kyle:
“I have seen many salons update their menus by eliminating gender on services such as haircuts. These salons are now using the length of hair to determine the cost of the haircut.”
Joico:
How will you be celebrating Pride Month?
Kyle:
“I will be celebrating with close friends; wherever that may take us!”
