“Hair Hacks with My Mom”

Featuring Joico Brand Storyteller and Blonde Specialist, Olivia Thompson

When Joico Brand Storyteller and Blonde Specialist, Olivia Thompson, introduced her mom as the “original hair-hack queen” in her adorable Mother’s Day video, it was instantly clear where our superstar pro got her love for the care and feeding of blonde hair. Today, she turns the tables and shows mom a brand-new curl-and-wave trick using three of her very favorite Joico products.

The makeover goal: Reduce frizz, get separation and definition for the blonde, naturally-wavy hair that Olivia and her mom both share.

Step 1: Cleanse

Detangle any knots, then wash hair with K-PAK Color Therapy Shampoo.

Why: This color-preserving shampoo fights damage every time you wash.

Step 2: Use a SUPER-FAST masque

Olivia and her mom apply new Defy Damage In A Flash, a rinse-out, on-the-spot treatment designed to protect hair from the damage of chemical treatments, thermal styling, and more (while reducing the frizz that both Olivia and her mom have been noticing when hair is dry).

Why: In A Flash makes hair 20X more resistant to breakage*…in just 7 seconds!

* Against combing breakage on damaged hair vs. untreated

Step 3: Do the hair plunge

Filling a sink with water, Olivia shows mom how to dip long strands right into the basin, soaking them thoroughly and scrunching gently upwards to release excess moisture.

Why: In order to preserve the curl shape, individual strands need to “clump” together and stay that way (rather than be separated with fingers and brush bristles).

Step 4: Zero Heat Air Dry Crème and then…hands off!

The pair gently apply Zero Heat to curls, while scrunching upwards and being careful not to separate strands.

Why: This product lets you avoid a frizz-inducing blow-dry; reduces air-drying time; and keeps humidity at bay for 24 hours.

Step 5: Apply the “raincoat”

Finally, Olivia sprays their hair with Humidity Blocker – then adds another coat a few hours later when hair is dry.

Why: It provides that final casting coverage, protecting each curl from weather and elements that can cause separation and frizz.

NOW…DON’T TOUCH. DON’T SLEEP ON THE WET HAIR. LET IT DRY FULLY, AND GET READY TO CATCH THE WAVE!
