Who says you need to jet to the Mediterranean to have the hottest summer adventure ever? We’re of the mindset that there are plenty of amazing getaways right here in the US; and we’ve got the lowdown on where to go (and what to pack!). Ready to roll? No passport needed…
Why we love it: This majestic, mountainous wild-land is a breathtaking collection of the world’s largest collection of geysers and, of course, the Grand Canyon. A recent $70-million-dollar lodging renovation resulted in nearly 500 new rooms at the Canyon Lodge and Cabins–sustainably-built lodges, surrounded by glorious walking and biking paths.
What to take: A pair of Salomon Ellipse GTX hiking shoes; Gregory Women’s Navarino 12 Daypack; and Joico’s Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo—a lifesaver on those days when a full-on cleanse just isn’t in the cards.
Why we love it: If you’ve never experienced the Big Apple, now’s the time for a visit. Summer in Manhattan is something special: outdoor cafes, air conditioned museums, Hudson River cruises, Brooklyn Bridge walks, and all the shopping and food your heart desires. Add to that, the comeback magic of Lower Manhattan, which must include a visit to One World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial, and food halls galore.
What to bring: Shoes you can walk in (save the heels for taxi time); the New York Subway app for your iPhone; a good crossbody bag so you can roam the town hands-free; and Joico’s travel-size Gold Dust Shimmer Spray to put the sparkle in your ‘do before you head out at night.
Why we love it: When Pacific Northwesters want to vacation properly, they pack their bags and head to this frontier logging town that boasts, among other things, a formidable collection of craft breweries (there are 26, and that doesn’t include the wineries, distilleries, and cider-making folks!). Bend also plays host to endless outdoor activities–nearly 300 miles of mountain-bike trails, plus fishing, hiking, kayaking, and paddle-boarding—and 80+ degree weather without a bit of humidity.
What to bring: Bathing suits; baseball caps; Julbo sunglasses (designed especially for watersports); and our travel-size Flip Turn Finishing Spray to keep that ponytail in place.
Why we love it: This fairytale, riverfront town is the oldest city in the state of Georgia, and one of the most charming Southern destinations around. Think: majestic architecture, ironstone gates, gnarled, twisted trees that date back hundreds of years, trolley tours, and cobblestone streets you’ll want to roam for days.
What to bring: Your sunniest garden dress so you can enjoy your ginger-infused bourbon cocktail at The Public Kitchen in style; a good camera for capturing shots of picturesque homes and gardens; and our travel-size Blowout Perfecting Crème to help your ‘do hold up in Southern summer humidity.
Why we love it: This stunning region—just two hours from New York City–has come a long way since the days of Woodstock and the Borscht Belt. In-the-know travelers are heading to tiny chic towns with boutique hotels, now considered by some to be the “new Hamptons.” One great pick: The Graham & Co. in the town of Phoenicia, where swimming, hammocks, cocktails, and fire pits steal the show.
What to bring: Your most casual, comfortable clothes; a great read; an extra duffel to stow the antiques you’ll inevitably buy; and our travel-size K-PAK Revitaluxe to condition hair while you relax.
