How To Play Hollywood For Halloween

The buzz on this year’s Halloween costumes? It’s celebrity central all the way…and topping the I’m-going-as list are Kylie Jenner, Margot Robbie, and Gwen Stefani.

To make things easy, we’ve nailed down a simple strategy for pulling off your doppelganger in minutes: with Joico’s hot, new InstaTint Temporary Shimmer Spray…five punchy, playful colors that allow you to commit to your costume for one night only. (Just hop in the shower, and the color washes out with a single shampoo.)

We also pulled in stylist-to-the-stars, Paul Norton, for the hairdo how-to’s. Treat yourself to these insider tricks…

Channeling: Kylie Jenner

Start with: pale blonde to medium-dark-blonde hair (or a wig)

The InstaTint pick: Mermaid Blue

How to’s…

·      Begin with a light, simple blowout using Joico Heat Set; then add allover gentle waves with a large-barrel curling iron, focusing on the middle of the hair and leaving out a few inches at the ends.

·      Next, divide hair into three sections – bottom, middle and top – clipping the middle and top sections out of the way as you work on the bottom. Start with a three-inch section and lift away from your head as you begin to spray Joico InstaTint in a layering motion back and forth. (Hint: In order to replicate Kylie’s pastel look, use a light hand and keep your distance during the spray process…less is more here.)

·      Repeat on the next two sections of hair.

Channeling: Margot Robbie

Start with: pale blonde to medium-dark-blonde hair (or a wig)

The InstaTint pick: Sapphire Blue or Mermaid Blue, plus Pink or Orchid

How to’s…

·      Create a center part, then spray entire head with Joico Hair Shake for messy texture.

·      Gather each side into a high ponytail and secure one with a blue elastic and one with a red elastic.

·      On the blue side, spray Sapphire Blue or Mermaid Blue; on the red side, go with Pink or Orchid.

·      Use a large comb or paddle brush on each ponytail to break up and soften the color.

Channeling: Gwen Stefani

Start with: pale blonde to medium-dark-blonde hair (or a wig)

The InstaTint pick: Orchid and Sapphire Blue, plus Joico’s Tint Shot in Black.

How to’s…

·      Start by creating a deep side part. Then, divide hair into two sections, separating the majority of the back from the front fringe area.

·      Gather all the back hair into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic.

·      Use a flat iron to help guide hair to the side, giving it a sleek, blunt end.

·      (Advice: Enlist a friend for the next step.) Lay your hair on a pillow covered with a towel or paper towel so you have a blank canvas to paint on.

·      Spray Orchid from roots to about three-or-four inches of the fringe. Without changing position, begin spraying Black or Sapphire Blue right where you left off, and cover about two more inches of the hair. (If you want clean, sharp lines, use a paper towel or sheet of paper to protect from overspray.)
