Seventeen.com – Joico Celebrity Colorist, George Papanikolas gives his tips for going ombré. “For the first time, it’s best to leave the dye-job to the professionals! Here’s what to tell your colorist for the perfect summer ombré:
Hollywood Life – Joico colorist, George Papanikolas, colored Shay’s hair at the Andy LeCompte Salon in Los Angeles with honey-colored balayage highlights. As opposed to traditional highlights, which use foils, balayage highlights are hand-painted on by a colorist. Since no foils are used, there are no harsh lines or demarcations of color throughout the hair, which gives it a very natural, Gisele vibe. George says after painting on Shay’s face framing highlights, he then went and “back-comb[ed] a few large pieces and highlight[ed] the ends to get the ‘ombre’ effect with the lighter ends.
E! – George Papanikolas, a much sought-after celebrity colorist with clients in Los Angeles and New York, offers us some tips for getting Shay’s look: “Shay Mitchell is sporting more of a beach-inspired, Hawaiian goddess kind of hair color,” he said. Papanikolas’ process helps the hair absorb color without becoming brassy or bleached-out. “Back-combing the hair before you [color] diffuses the highlights so that they don’t look like they’ve been dipped in bleach,” he said. “The chunky pieces are a great way for brunettes to get an instant pop of lightness.”
