City of Hope: National Professional Salon Industry
City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. The organization's Professional Salon Industry Division was established in 1981 with the purpose of establishing a continuous flow of industry support for the City of Hope. It is an annual tradition to honor outstanding leaders in the industry for their contributions both in business and through philanthropy in the community, with the Spirit of Life Award. Since its inception, this division has raised millions of dollars for City of Hope's research and treatment programs.

Shear Genius, Season 1 winner Anthony Morrison and his fellow stylists at Londoner Salon & Spa proved that stylists CAN make a difference! On October 17, 2010, the Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based salon hosted a "Beauty for a Cure" cut-a-thon and raised more than $5,700 for breast cancer awareness and research. The cut-a-thon was part of a nationwide breast cancer awareness and fundraising initiative
Christina Amato-Smith, breast cancer survivor and owner of Top Cuts Salon in Long Island, New York, is the epitome of a stylist making a difference. Amato-Smith recently hosted a fundraiser to benefit women battling breast cancer and raised a whopping $15,000! To ensure the event's success, the salon's staff donated their time to offer hair services, local businesses donated food and raffle items, and a DJ kept the close to 300 attendees tripping the light fantastic.
When Joico and City of Hope's "Beauty for a Cure" campaign called on stylists and salons to make a difference last October, Jaki Berry, a stylist and Distributor Sales Consultant, answered the call LOUD and clear. Berry rallied 15 salons in her Northern California territory to join the nationwide breast cancer fundraising initiative and raise more than $5,000 for City of Hope, one of the leading cancer research and treatment hospitals in the world.
City of Hope's National Professional Salon Industry has named Sara Jones, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Joico, as the recipient of the 2011 Spirit of Life Award. On July 30, 2011, Jones will be honored for her outstanding philanthropic and business contributions at the annual Spirit of Life Award Dinner, held during the Professional Beauty Association's Beauty Week in Las Vegas, Nevada. All proceeds from the event will be earmarked for women's cancer research and care.
