JOICO VERO K-PAK COLOR SPOKESPERSON BETH MINARDI ANSWERS A COLOR 911 CALL FROM THE SET OF HBO’S MILDRED PIERCE

August 3rd, 2010

hairstyle Kate Winslet and Rachel Evan Wood are shooting a remake of the Joan Crawford weepie Mildred Pierce for HBO in New York, and before the cameras rolled, producers sent out a hair color 911 to Joico Vero K-PAK Color Spokesperson Beth Minardi. The five hour miniseries will tell the story of a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter's love during the Great Depression in Los Angeles. True Blood's Wood plays the daughter, and 11-year-old actress Morgan Taylor, who first appeared with Mark Wahlberg in The Invincibles, plays Wood as a child. That's where Minardi came in.

"Evan will wear an incredible, auburn-strawberry, natural hair red wig in the production," the color expert reveals. And they needed us to match Morgan's natural blonde hair to that wig."

In a big budget production like this, results must be perfect, so Minardi reached for Joico Vero K-PAK color. Because the young Morgan's hair had never been colored, Minardi first lowlighted strands with a permanent shade—Joico Vero K-PAK 7FOR/Copper Flame. Then she glazed the entire head with equal parts of Vero K-PAK Chrome Demi-Permanent G9/Spun Gold and RC8/Orange Crush. "I wanted to create plenty of texture with the color, which is why I used the technique of glazing over lowlights," Minardi explains. And thanks to the fact that Vero K-PAK color conditions as it colors, Minardi was assured that Morgan's virgin hair would emerge from the service exquisitely shiny, strong and healthy.

Since Mildred Pierce shot for eight weeks, Minardi and her team stood by for retouches. And since production wrapped, is there a chance that young Morgan Taylor will remain a redhead? "Well, her mother is a redhead and she told me that Morgan was strawberry blonde as a kid," laughs Minardi. "And when we finished the color, Morgan was so thrilled she was dancing around the salon. So…who knows?"
