Bold sex appeal, extreme luxury and edgy glamor are back – in a BIG way!

After more than two decades of subtlety and minimalism, In-Excess, Joico’s new trend collection, heralds a return to the extravagance of the 1980s.

But rather than reproduce the past, Joico International Artistic Directors Damien Carney and Sue Pemberton did as many fashion designers did for their spring 2014 collections and cleverly reinvented the most defining
trends of “the decade of excess” for a new era.

“The goal wasn’t to create a retrospective of past trends, but instead be inspired by the more-is-better attitude of the time,” said Carney. “It was as if no one ever questioned, ‘is this too much?’ That’s the spirit that drove this collection.”
Styling-wise, retro hair trends such as skyscraper bangs, extreme texture and a Flock of Seagulls-like fringe were also given a 21st-century makeover, proving that with ingenuity, everything old can be made new again.

For the color, Pemberton, fresh from her second NAHA win, found inspiration in the bold, bright hairstyles of the MTV generation – Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and Boy George, just to name a few. “The level of color intensity is the same, but because the updates are much more refined than the originals, the finished looks are very modern and wearable – not the least bit dated or over-the-top,” said Pemberton. Pemberton also used a variety of color application techniques to recreate the wild, pattern-on-pattern “color and texture clashes” of artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Frank Stella, mirroring the “graphic, layered complexity” seen on the spring runways of Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Fendi. “The result is excessive without being ‘excessive,’ explained Pemberton. “It’s excessive in a good way.”

Eligibility
This Sweepstakes is open to Licensed professional Hairdressers/Colorists who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older (19 years of age or older if a resident of AL or NE), except employees, representatives or agents of Zotos International, its subsidiaries and/or affiliates, and their respective advertising agencies, public relations agencies and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent and their spouses) and individuals with whom those employees, representatives or agents reside.

Prizes
Sweepstakes Prizes (20): Joico “In-Excess” step-by-step booklets for both Cut and Color technicals. Not for resale; value not applicable.

All federal, state and local taxes on the prize are the sole responsibility of the Winners. No substitutions or other alternative is available, except that Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value should a prize item become unavailable. Prizes are non-transferable and non-assignable.

How To Enter
The Sweepstakes begins at 2:00 p.m. PDT on February 3, 2014 and ends at 4:59:59 pm PDT on February 24, 2014 (the “Sweepstakes Entry Period”). To enter the sweepstakes complete the official entry form at http://www.joico.com/hairstyles/in-excess/.

Entries not in compliance with these official rules may be disqualified, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Entries generated by a script, macro, bot or any other automated means will be deemed void. Proof of submission of an entry shall not be deemed proof of receipt by the Sponsor. By participating, you agree to these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all respects.

Winner Selection and Notification
Sweepstakes winners will be selected at random from all eligible entries received. Random drawing will be held on or about February 27, 2014. All decisions of Sponsor are final and binding and are not subject to mediation or litigation of any kind. Sponsor reserves the right to verify that the potential winners are eligible and qualified to receive a prize and may revoke any prize awarded or designated to a person found ineligible.

Attempts to notify potential winners will be made by the Sponsor via email provided upon entry. Potential winners must respond to Sponsor via the email address within 7 days of attempted notification.  Sponsor is not responsible for any change of, mailing address, email address, and/or telephone number of entrants. In the event of non-compliance with these Official Rules, or if a prize notification or prize is unclaimed or returned as undeliverable, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner may be contacted.

Odds of Winning
Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

Limitation of Liability
Sponsor will not be responsible or liable for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including without limitation, electronic malfunction of any network, hardware or software. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend the Sweepstakes should viruses, bugs or other causes beyond its control corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the Sweepstakes. In the event of cancellation of any Sweepstakes, the prizes will be awarded in a random drawing from eligible entries received prior to cancellation.

General Release
By participating, entrants release Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, participating partners, advertising or promotions agencies, employees, officers, agents, directors and the immediate family and household members of the above, and each of their respective affiliated companies, directors, officers, employees, representatives and agents, from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with this Sweepstakes or with the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injury or death, damage to, loss or destruction of property or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light). Each entrant waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses and agrees that all causes of action arising out of or connected with this sweepstakes, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. Winner Publicity
