2009 Spring Hair Ideas

With spring in full swing, it is time to turn to Joico for all the new hair ideas that are hot for the season. From short blunt cuts to elegant up-do’s, Joico has the scoop on all of the newest and latest trends in hair fashion.

For those of us with long, lovely locks, this season the look is not a straight look but a more blown-out style with body. Blow drying the hair straight with a round brush, you’ll want to part your hair on the side. Using larger hot rollers, you can curl small sections of hair by rolling them up towards the part on the side that you have made. Finish up by using a large paddle brush to get those curls out into a few smooth and springy waves. Finish with your favorite Joico styling spray.

The arrival of spring also means that summer is not far off, and many women will be throwing their hair up into ponytails to try to ease the staunch of hot summer heat. A ponytail can always be a fashionable way to wear the hair, and doesn’t have to only serve a purpose! Try a little twirl the next time you wear a ponytail to dress it up a bit. Secure your hair low, at the nape of the neck, and wrap a small section of hair around the base of the ponytail. Fasten it with a little bobby pin to the underside of the rubber band. By separating the remaining hair in the tail into sections, you can wrap it around a curling iron and unroll it to give depth and volume. Twist the whole ponytail around your finger to create one large curl at the end for a sophisticated and easy look.

One of the hottest trends for 2009 is the deep part. Almost every style can be modernized and brought to new life with a deep side part. For a good clean part, use your favorite Joico styling cream to dampen hair. Use the pointed end of a handled comb to separate the hair to a part that lines up just past the arch of your eyebrow. Wear your hair smooth and straight and spritz with Joico smoothing products or wear layered and wavy hair in whispy outward curls that are finished with a Joico light finishing spray.

For those hot summer nights when you need a cool up-do, try a voluminous, loose look instead of a tight and slick-looking pulled one. Spritz your favorite volumizer on the roots of your hair when they are wet, and blow-dry your hair straight. Make a part down the middle, and lightly tease your roots. Loosely sweep your hair into a low chignon, and cup the sides just over the ears for a subtle, soft, and feminine look.

For years a popular way to wear the hair has been to pull the sides back, leaving the back down. A new take on this classic look is to rustle it all up a bit. This laid-back version is done by pulling the sides and top back into a loose ponytail that isn’t combed smooth- just rustle up the hair a bit with your fingers. All you have to do at that point is to take the little ponytail and wrap it around itself in a twisty figure-8 and secure with a couple of bobby pins and voila- a loose and stylish way to get those sides back and out of your face that doesn’t look overly-groomed or plastered with product.

Joico professionals know that at the heart of every great hair idea is color. The artistic impressions are given life with the colors that are chosen for each look, and although the trend now is to tastefully combine bright and bold colors together in an organized artistic way, there still must be some rules! If you have very short, cropped hair, try a sizzling look with bold blonde or bright red as a color this season. Be careful though, because if you have longer hair, these colors (as well as black and many dark browns) can look very fabricated and artificial, and downright tacky. On cropped cuts however, the bold colors stand out to make a statement that is hard to ignore!

Other trends and hair ideas include securing a ponytail with a decorative barrette instead of a rubber band (and barrettes are back in style more than they have been in decades) and you can even decorate the hair with a large barrette that sits on the side of the head above the ear. Using barrettes add to the loose looks that are popular these days instead of the slick, tight look that you get from using elastics. Instead of securing the hair high up on the head, you should try using a large barrette and securing the hair at the nape of the neck instead for a super-sexy feminine look that is still out of the way and off of your face.

Many women have chin-length hair and need some fresh ideas to liven up their look. For evenings out on the town, create a deep side part and take a two-inch section of hair from the front and roll it away from your face around a hot roller or curling iron. Wrap the rest of the hair around the curling iron so they flip outward and guide that front curled section into an S-shape. Finish with your fave Joico finishing spray.

Some of the retro looks of yesteryear are back and better than ever for 2009, and one of them is the flip-out. We’re not only talking about the ends of the hair but the bangs as well. The retro flip can be done by rolling the ends up in a small curling iron or brush and slicking the hair back a bit at the crown with a bit of Joico hair gel.

Hair ideas that center on the volumous tousled looks are what 2009 is all about, and with the help of Joico hair care products, any look is attainable. For full bouncy hair, volume at the roots can be done by blow-drying your hair using a round brush. Pull the hair out to the side at a 90-degree angle and let it fall. Work from the tips of your hair to ¾ of the way up in small sections for fine hair while holding a curling iron vertically instead of horizontally. For thicker hair, use two-inch wide sections. Don’t brush the hair out when you are finished, but run your fingers through it all just enough to separate those big curls.
