Seasonal Tips
Dancing for the Holidays
They go toe-to-toe each week - waltzing and cha-cha-ing like mad in the effort to claim first prize. And the celebrities of Dancing With the Stars aren't just required to dance with grace and precision - they're expected to look gorgeous and glamorous, too! When it comes to great hair, it's a challenge to keep locks lovely and in place as you're twirling and whirling. So it stands to reason that when it comes to your own holiday hair, the best place to look for glam style ideas...and tips on party-worthy longevity...is DWTS!
Here, the pros from Joico offer up two Dancing-inspired styles for looking your Jingle Bell best this season.
Give Curls a Whirl
Nothing dresses up hair quicker than sassy ringlets and sexy waves. To create luscious loops that last, start by applying a versatile, alcohol-free setting lotion like Joico JoiLotion to damp hair. Blow strands dry with a round brush, lifting hair at the base to create maximum volume. Then, divide hair into 1 inch sections. Mist each section with a humidity-resistant spray like Joico JoiMist, and then twirl it around the barrel of a curling iron, directing each curl away from your face. (Keep the clip of the iron closed and wrap the hair around the outside in a spiral.) Remove the iron without unwinding the curl. Clip each curl to your head until all of your hair is "set." Let the curls cool completely, then remove the hairclips. Gently unfurl each section by grasping the tip and lightly shaking the hair, then letting it drop. Don't comb or brush through the curls; simply mist hair with more JoiMist for all-night frizz resistance and hold.
Sleek Sidestep
A low side part with hair gathered into a low ponytail on the opposite side of the parting creates a sultry party look. To create a flawlessly glossy texture that's completely free of flyaways, reach for the Joico K-PAK ReconstRx Vapor Iron to smooth strands. The iron infuses hair with the unique, conditioning "Vapor Fuel" as it controls unruly textures. Working in small sections, glide the iron with consistent pressure from scalp to ends. When you reach the tip of each section, gently "scoop" the hair over the beveled ends of the iron to create a polished finish. Before gathering hair into the pony, build a bit of volume into the look by lifting top sections, misting the undersides with a flexible hold hairspray like Joico Design Collection Flexible Shaping Spray, and backcombing the hair at the base. Smooth the hair over the teased sections. Secure the ponytail with an elastic, then mist strands with a formula like Joico Design Collection Humidity Blocker Spray to lock out frizz and lock in glamour!
Tip: Camouflage the ponytail elastic by pulling a small section of hair from the tail, wrapping it around the base over the elastic and securing it with a bobby pin.
