K-PAK Color Therapy FAQ's

What is K-PAK Color Therapy?

K-PAK Color Therapy is the first hair care system formulated to preserve color by addressing the B-layer, hair's first line of defense against damage and color loss. By restoring and protecting hair's natural B-layer, K-PAK Color Therapy offers an unprecedented, dual-benefit system that:

  • -Doubles the life of haircolor's vibrancy
  • -Repairs and strengthens damaged hair
  • -Reduces breakage by 65% after just one use
  • -Instantly increases shine by nearly 50%

What is the B-layer?

The B-layer is the outermost layer of the hair cuticle. Its unique composition of lipids bound to proteins forms a "protective seal" that maintains the internal integrity of the hair structure while preventing damaging environmental aggressors and excess water from penetrating the hair shaft.

How does the B-layer affect color?

When intact, the B-layer seals in essential moisture and color molecules, in turn, protecting and prolonging haircolor. When the B-layer is compromised by chemical services, environmental elements or mechanical damage, hair becomes hydrophilic (readily absorbs water). This over absorption of water leads to swelling, which causes internal oxidation and the escape of color molecules, resulting in rapid color loss. K-PAK Color Therapy restores hair's ability to repel water to within 5% of virgin hair, greatly reducing color loss.

What is the key technology in K-PAK Color Therapy?

Every K-PAK Color Therapy product features Joico's breakthrough QuadraBond Peptide Complex. This technologically advanced blend of peptides, African Manketti Oil, arginine and dual-polymers restores and protects the B-layer while delivering maximum reconstruction to color-treated hair.

How does QuadraBond Peptide Complex work?

QuadraBond Peptide Complex works in synergy with Quadramine Complex. Quadramine's 150-2500 molecular weights and sizes (MWS) allow it to penetrate the hair and repair structural damage, while QuadraBond's peptides 65,000 MWS work with our unique polymer system, African Manketti Oil and amino acids to replenish the B-layer and repair torn cuticles.

What surfactant is used in Color Therapy Shampoo?

K-PAK Color Therapy Shampoo uses naturally derived Sodium Laureth Sulfate as a surfactant. Testing proved this ingredient to be the most color-safe surfactant available and the most compatible with QuadraBond Peptide Complex.

Who should use K-PAK Color Therapy?

K-PAK Color Therapy is ideal for color clients with:

  • -Hair that is structurally weak or damaged
  • -Hair that has been lifted more than two levels
  • -Hair that is double-processed
  • -Hair with multiple porosities

What is the main difference between Restorative Styling Oil and other Joico serums?

Restorative Styling Oil can be used effectively as both a colorpreserving treatment and styling product.

As a treatment it:

  • -Nourishes and strengthens hair to provide unmatched cumulative conditioning benefits
  • -Seals the cuticle to protect against color fadage
  • -Offers natural UV protection against the sun and other environmental aggressors

As a styling product it:

  • -Reduces drying and styling time
  • -Provides vibrant shine and softness
  • -Leaves hair smooth, soft and healthy
  • -Won't build up or weigh hair down

  • How is Restorative Styling Oil different from other oil products?

Unlike most oil products that rely on just one type of oil, Restorative Styling Oil harnesses the power of THREE 'super oils'-African Manketti, Argan and Evening Primrose oils-to deliver unmatched benefits and performance.

What is African Manketti Oil? This emollient-rich oil has been used in Africa for more than 7,000 years to provide nutritional, and hair and skin conditioning benefits. This oil, derived from the kernel of the African Manketti Nut, is high in linolenic acid, making it ideal for hair and skin care application. This shine-enhancing oil offers hydrating, restructuring and regenerating benefits, and creates a lightweight shield that protects hair from external aggression. Can someone with fine or limp hair use Restorative Styling Oil? Yes, extensive salon testing revealed that Restorative Styling Oil is ideal for all hair types and is as effective on fine, limp hair as it is on thick, coarse hair. Someone with fine hair should simply use less product than someone with coarse hair.

Will Restorative Styling Oil build up on my client's hair?

No, hairstylists who tested the oil reported no build up on hair. Furthermore, Restorative Styling Oil can easily be removed from hair with the appropriate Joico or K-PAK shampoo.

Can Restorative Styling Oil be added to Vero K-PAK Color?

Vero K-PAK Color is designed to be the highest performing color on the market with two key points of difference:

    1. Superior conditioning and reconstruction
    2. Superior dye penetration and longevity

Vero K-PAK Color achieves these results through a water-soluble base that does not require shampooing following a color service. Additionally, Quadramine has the unique ability to reconstruct the hair as you color while improving the penetration of dye molecules. For these reasons, the addition of any oil-based product to Vero K-PAK Color is not recommended. The application of K-PAK Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil is highly recommended after the color service to seal in color molecules and increase color longevity.
